TIPS
Finding fish is every angler’s main goal. All fish relate to structure or cover in some way. Some of the key structures or “holding areas” are rocky points, drop-offs, inlets or outlets and vegetation. Structure gives small fish a place to hide and a place for larger fish to set up ambush points and still feel safe. Spend some time researching the body of water you plan to fish. Read maps, check the Internet and talk to your local tackle store or marina. Another great way to gather information is to book a local guide for the first day of your trip. The knowledge you will receive and the time you save will far outweigh the cost.
No bananas – myth or key to catching more fish!
Some experienced anglers and guides won’t let you set foot in their boat if you pack bananas for lunch. This legend started when banana shipments coming from South America contained large Tarantula Spiders. Plus the bottom layer of bananas would speed up the rotting process to the wooden hull of the boat. These are two things no fisherman wants in their boat. In reality, fish are turned off and driven away by the potassium in bananas. Whether myth or legend, leave the bananas behind.
One key to added success is to eliminate or reduce any human or “man-made” scent on your baits and lures. Once you are rigged up, suspend your bait or lure in the air to avoid contact with you or the boat. Another great way to cover and eliminate unwanted odors is to add Nitro Gravy or Nitro Grease. The powerful scent and fish attractants released in the water will make every cast count.

When fishing for Yellow Perch always have a large minnow down near the bottom on heavier tackle. While catching average size Perch on small minnows, keep an eye on the rod with the bigger minnow. The truly Jumbo perch will come on the bigger bait.
